CCSS meets TCI and TPRS

Teaching for mastery has always been the name of the game when using TPRS. Blaine Ray invented the method because he wanted students to demonstrate proficiency.  Learning standards are no problem for TCI/TPRS teachers.  Martina Bex (martinabex.com) has done great work with articulating how Teaching with Comprehensible Input and the Common Core State Standards coordinate in an environment that teaches for proficiency.  Below are some relevant standards with the main activities that I use and think about on a daily basis as I practice the art of Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling.

I post this on the wall in my room so that interested students and colleagues have an understanding about what they are doing or seeing.

PERSONALIZED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (PQA)

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.9-10.1 Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 9–10 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
