Embedded readings to volleyball translation activity

I have never used readings so well/so earlier with beginners until discovering the power of embedded readings.  I enjoy using Look, I Can Talk stories from Blaine Ray and I will continue to use them but had been introducing them maybe at the end of week 2. This is after 8 hours of comprehensible input. This year, I designed stories that would coordinate with Señor Wooly songs because I feel the structures found in the songs are repetitive in such a comprehensible way that students process the language very efficiently.  All evidence of student learning reflects that in this case.

I asked students to demonstrate “Volleyball Translation Activity” for our upcoming Curriculum night.  Here are level one students demonstrating the activity.  They are not reading English.  Their paper is only in Spanish.  Notice the speed at which these volunteers are processing.  AWESOME!
