“Read, Draw, Ask” Sub Plan

I am always wondering what I can leave behind for my students that allows them to develop their fluency, creativity, and doesn’t leave them frustrated. This assignment gives all types of learners an opportunity to shine at any time of the school year. This work originally comes from Crystal Barragan’s site.

The trick to making these sub plans successful is selecting a reading that is not too hard nor too easy for students.  I often use short stories from Blaine Ray’s Look I Can Talk stories. More and more there are TPRS teachers sharing short stories online as well.  Any reading that seems to be include high frequency language makes for a good assignment while the teacher is gone.
